In 1991 on the basis of the Department of Romance and Germanic Languages of the Faculty of Philology the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology was founded. In 2019 it was renamed the Faculty of European Languages and Communication.
The development of economy, culture, science and information technologies made it urgent to teach languages using modern and effective methodologies. Within the short period of time the Faculty managed to become one of the largest faculties of Yerevan State University providing high level knowledge and skills for its graduates.
Currently about 1600 students study at the Faculty where different European languages are taught including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Faculty offers bachelor’s and master’s programs in languages and communication, cross-cultural communication, translation studies and foreign literature.
The structure of the Faculty includes 9 chairs whose more than 250 highly qualified tutors are engaged in the educational process. The main directions of research at the Faculty are lexicology, stylistics, functional styles, grammar, pragmalinguistics, psycholinguistics, text linguistics, discourse analysis, area studies, translation studies, cross-cultural communication and so on.
Faculty graduates successfully realize the acquired knowledge and skills in different state institutions, embassies of foreign countries in RA, international organizations, administrative and educational structures.
